Gouldian finches are not ideal for anybody starting out in keeping/breeding finches, Gouldian finches are more challenging than the likes of Zebra or Bengalese finches. I would not advise anybody keeping them as an introduction to foreign finches

Breeding Gouldians can be a real challenge, it took me three years before I had my first chick

I have tried colony breeding in a flight but have found cage breeding to be the most succesful for me

I start to bring the birds into condition in September ready for breeding in November

Cocks and hens are kept apart until the breeding season, they are kept in lonk flight cages before they paired

I put the nest box and nesting material (coconut fible) when I pair my birds. Good cocks will start to sing to the hen almost imediatelt and staet to build nest after a couple of days. Some take longer, if they do not look compaitable after ten days I replace the cock
